Much Better Than the Review

CaptainZarabet

I rarely agree with eMusic reviewers. This is a fine album of well-known and lesser-known favorites. Holidays aren't always the time when people are most receptive to new songs and the type of dissonance that seems beloved of eMusic reviewers. I like this album because it features vocals by well-known artists, singing great Christmas songs. Make your own decision.

A Folk Collection

funnytimes

The "They Say" review above states that these songwriters did not write said Christmas songs, and hence misrepresents the title, but if i may i'd like to beg to differ. The term "Singer/Songwriter" is most often synonymous with the Folk genre, especially popular folk singers of the 70's period. So, this is a folk collection (with a few of their country cousins thrown in), and connotes that laid back, Folk feel. For example, The Judds never actually wrote many of their hits, but still fit in nicely with this scheme. An interesting collection, and I always find it interesting people's different takes on styles and genres.

Taking their lead, young singers over the last decade have been swinging the vocal tradition onto a new plateau with a pop sensibility. In the mix are tunes by… more »

They Say All Music Guide

All the artists collected on this Christmas compilation are indeed singers, and all of them have written songs (but not these songs), and are therefore songwriters, but what might have made this set truly interesting (and given credence to its title) is if these artists were singing Christmas songs they had actually written instead of giving renditions — however pleasant — of traditional holiday fare. – Steve Leggett
