Like so many debut albums by 60s garage bands, this is largely an album of covers. However what sets Distortions apart is the superb standard of musicianship and choice of songs. Whereas many garage bands played a repertoire of Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Chicago blues, The Litter focused on British Invasion bands - and the album includes some blistering versions of songs by The Who, Small Faces, Cream, Spencer Davis, Yardbirds etc. Add to these other classics like a very moody version of Buffy Sainte Marie's Codeine, The Mummy, a very short but fun instrumental based on the theme to the horror film of the same name, and the incendiary opener - Action Woman - and you have in my opinion the core of this album. But how can I forget their take on the Yardbirds I'm a Man? This should have closed the album in my view, as it's so demented and freaked out that you could imagine the men in their white coats arriving to take the band away as the song builds to its gloriously noisy climax.
