I have been playing this since I downloaded it. This is an exceptional piece of work. wonderful vocal with soaring harmonies. The instruments cut through beautifully with the tone and true clarity of the instrument's voice. Great originals and covers. I am looking forward to seeing where this group goes with time.
I strongly recommend this second album release by the Lovell Sisters (Rebecca, on mandolin and guitar,Jessica on fiddle, and Megan on Dobro.) Drawing on the Mountain Music tradition, with many free-form elements, this is Progressive Roots music at its best. There are some strong covers, including "You Remain", two instrumentals, and five interesting and evocative songs written by the girls (tracks 1,3,5,6,8) Standouts include "Distance" which won the John Lennon Songwriting Prize, "Take One Moment", exploring the moods of a yearning love, and "Paulita Maxwell", an "outlaw" tragedy, with a strong lyric and some innovative music.
