Twelve songs in a half-hour is the ur-model for punk albums (set by the Ramones 'debut), and this is a stellar example of the form. The Milkshakes is the band Billy Childish spent the first half of the '80s leading, and on this 1984 album he crafts more expert readymades in any number of early-'60s styles. "If I Get You" is led by doomy surf guitar and splashy drums, the rockabilly number "One Day You Die" is absurdly cheery and sleazy ("Drive half a mile to nowhere/ And never bring you back"), and "I Need Lovin'" twists down the riff of the Beatles '"I'll Be Back."
