Great album

Macklind

I was lucky to see The Power Station's last tour, in 1997, at a tiny venue named Mississippi Nights. It was up close and personal, with Palmer's perfect, straight-ahead vocals, Tony Thompson's kickass drumming, and John Taylor's guitar work. Sadly, Thompson and Palmer are gone. I love this album, and consider it to be one of the 80s best albums.

Force, Power.

Verbidei

With members from Duran Duran, Chic, and, well, the guy who sang, "Dr. Dr. Give Me the News..." this should be glossy pop. It isn't. It's force and power, with precise vocals and drumming driving great pop melodies. Taylor's guitar work is articulate and simple -- a perfect match for Tony Thompson's pulsing drumming (does anyone drum with this much force and restraint?). A perfect and often overlooked rock album. One of the great organic works of the 1980s.

They Say All Music Guide

Under the direction of guitarist Andy Taylor, the Power Station is an attempt to break free from the constraints of Duran Duran’s polished synth pop, adding elements of funk, courtesy of Chic drummer Tony Thompson, as well as straight-ahead hard rock, courtesy of vocalist Robert Palmer. Everything is polished with a glossy sheen, which makes the record sound quite similar to Duran Duran, although without their sense of popcraft. Includes a cover of T. Rex’s “Get It On (Bang a Gong)” and the single “Some Like It Hot.” – Stephen Thomas Erlewine
