Brings back memories

mmzinder

This is the first album I ever bought, 20 years ago, it has not lost it's appeal. Chrissie Hynde rules with a great voice, backed up by mighty fine rock music.

Great Hynde's

Chrissie's perhaps the most intellectual female rock vocalist and music writer. All good stuff here.

takes me back

Katabeta

Takes me back to being in my parents' 1986 volvo station wagon and my mom playing this tape again and again... I can't separate my love of this album from those memories so maybe it's not as good as I think it is. But "back on the chain gang" definitely gets to me now in a way it didn't when I was in elementary school. Those guitar riffs... Chrissie's voice (oooooh oooooh)... Love it!

Whoah,,, Chrissie's best? Just download it!

One great song after another. Is there any doubt that Chrissie is one of the greatest female rock vocalists? She and Patti Smith are the best, at least for me. Too bad Janis was not around long enough to know how she would have compared. But I'll Stand By You has to be part of this. Big omission.

Message of Love

No music player is complete without "Message of Love." Period. You need it.

They Say All Music Guide

The Pretenders burst on the scene in the early ’80s with one of the most compelling presentations of rock & roll ever seen. This collection, which highlights their A and B sides up until the mid-’80s, shows that Chrissie Hynde and co-conspirators were true masters of the rock single. Tracks such as “Brass in Pocket,” “Middle of the Road,” and the highly underrated “Message of Love” are spectacularly performed, written, and produced. The early band, especially with James Honeyman-Scott’s hook-laden guitar playing, was capable of miracles, and you’ll find examples of that on virtually every cut. – Matthew Greenwald
