Mandatory listening for a certain audience
If "Satanic Majesties Request" is your favorite Stones album (you know who you are!) then this is for you. No wonder it never sold. This is one of those '60s artifacts that sounds both dated and timeless. Syd Barrett was already toast. The story line seems pretty "who cares?" Comparisons to The Who's "Tommy" seem pretty far fetched. Maybe this is more of a precursor to Genesis "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" (greatest rock opera EVER) whose protagorist was named after the character in the Who song "Rael" (which uses a Tommy theme). So all that being said, this is great great stuff for lovers of '60s proto-prog.
