Great album but...

Jazz Junky

I have to say the music is great, but the sound quality is terrible. Normally the production values of the Rippingtons is 10+, but all that distortion in the low end is almost too much to bear. I have a feeling that it is bad encoding on the site, as I can't see modern production allowing this. Sounds like it was encoded for XM radio, and we all know how bad that sounds. My AM radio from 1959 sounds better!

A typical case of "what in the heck are you thinking!" If it ain't broken don't fix it! Followed these guys for years. They blew it on this one! Not a lot of orchestra I heard just low budget 70's synthesizer. Really disappointing. I would think their label will have more to say on their next project....You be the judge.

Very refreshing, recomended.

Built to last is unlike anything done by Russ Freeman and the Rippingtons to date. It is a totally different direction than past releases. If you are looking for the familar sax melodies, forget it, this one is in your face with a full orchastra behind it. Different, and yet familar. Tracks like Cougars, and Hotel Deville are unmistakable Rippings sound. The others take on a new and refreshing direction.

Got the over all title and pic message. The orchestral take would have been nice for the interlude or prelude of the songs that were done but I understand the method to the madness as it were. Keep it up Russ and the Gang. Trying to create the new method or the attempt there of, you are on track. The kids need to be thought of when composing to the extent that they cannot only relate but get into what you are presenting not necessarily to them but the masses.
