While previous transmission from O Yuki side project Sons of Silence have proved overly dance-y, this debut recording from the group gets the balance right, interspersing dub-heavy beat-fueled tracks (usually brushed with clean, club-friendly jazz and electronica) with abstract shorts of fizzing, melodic ambience. The result is a personable, dynamic ride that listens almost as a single hour-long track. As usual, production values are sky high, and past ruttings of an overly “ethno” bent are filtered to a more palatable concentration. – Sean Cooper
