Makin' My Way

Though they hail from locales not ordinarily associated with hip-hop — specifically, Waco and Indiana — Strange Fruit Project prove astonishingly well-versed in b-boy history and well-equipped to push things forward. Their latest full-length, The Healing, is a bright and shining classic, full of sped-up soul samples, bumping beats and nimble rhymes. Myth, S1 and Myone bounce breezily on top of the beats, uniting for a few fleeting seconds to reinforce key phrase-turns.

Consider "Makin 'My Way" a taster — an example in brief of everything SFP does well. Built on a scratchy jazz sample, the song hums and pulses, hazy as a hot summer day.
