OUTSTANDING

dannyd1976

The Super Friendz are perhaps Canada's most underrated band ever. Melodies and harmonies that would make Lennon and McCartney proud (or the Buzzcocks for that matter), and guitar hooks Tom Verlaine might have wrote. Some songs are instant hits, and others show their genius after 4 or 5 listens. This compilation is a good place to start, but you should really track down all of their LPs. Their 2nd LP 'slide show' may be their best. Very happy to find this comp on here though so I could once again hear the long lost gem "Boots", which I hadn't heard since my Sticktoitveness EP cassette went belly up about 12 years ago. Listen to the harmonies at the 2:55 mark. Wow.

Supreme irony...

EMUSIC-01F841C7

So ironic that mobygrapekoolaid is from Sacramento when I, a Canadian, just downloaded this while visiting his fair hometown. I had the opportunity to see this band live a couple of times back in the mid-90s, including an impossible to top set in some dive bar in Ottawa, Canada, with Chris Murphy of Sloan on drums. That show was like this album...a rush of awesome guitar pop ditties delivered at Ramones-like breakneck speed. Really, really great stuff...

Holy Cr-p Moment

mobygrapekoolaid

I just had one of those moments, where it's like "holy crap, how have I not heard of this band?" Phenomenal, tight, intelligent guitar based indie pop. Better than 90% of what passes for "good". Do yourself a favor and at least check this stuff out.

Sticktoitiveness comprises a good number of tracks from the Super Friendz’ Murderecords releases, starting with a few selections from Mock Up, Scale Down and then moving onward — since there’s very little inconsistency in straightahead pop tunes which make up the band’s catalog, the compilation comes out steady and stocked with three-minute gems. The record’s probable goal is to clue Americans to the excellent work of this domestically successful Canadian band, and it does this perfectly — there are more snappy harmonies, crisp guitar constructions, and hooky melodies on Sticktoitiveness than can be found on entire shelves at most record stores. – Nitsuh Abebe
