Keep in mind that this is a "documentary" recording, but one done in a studio not out on the training fields. There is no ambient sound and clapping or percussion has been added to take the place of actual marching sounds. Unless one is especially enamored by this type of performance, it's capacity for extended pleasure is probably rather limited. Whether these cadence call-outs are folk music (in the way a field chant or a football cheer is folk "music," would seem to depend on how they are created and transmitted. I would guess they qualify. Rhythmic sounds have an attraction, and sure, listening to these would probably help one keep a steady pace while jogging around the lake.
