16 years later...

AutoBeatnik

Back in the mid-90s, The Vulgar Boatmen were a band to watch. They had put out two great indie records, had strong reviews in the music press and were gaining a national following thanks to their fantastic live shows. Then they got signed to Warner Brothers...and everything fell apart. Internal machinations within the record label saw that their third album, "Opposite Sex", was released only in Europe. Promises of a Stateside release were made but never carried through, the supporting tour was cancelled, and the band never really recovered. For 16 years now, "Opposite Sex" has remained unavailable in the U.S. - until now! At long last, it is getting a proper American release. While it may not quite live up to the legend it has garnered (few things could - just ask Brian Wilson!), there are songs in here that easily rank with their best work, continuing that classic Boatmen sound, pitched halfway between Buddy Holly and the Velvet Underground.
