Excellent but not stellar

Drella118

Not one of the essential 60s albums like Blonde On Blonde or Let It Bleed, but a great slice of 60s rock history nonetheless and contains rollicking tunes and guitar playing. Production on this album has not dated all that well and so does not have that timeless quality that the best albums of the 60s has. However, still a high quality album rooted in the best English Blues tradition

Their best

Fiend

This album contains Happenings Ten Years Time Ago, one of the best songs of all time. The other songs are all very good as well. Jeff Beck plays the best guitar he's ever played here.

Very good album. It has a lot of hits on it. I like the guitar playing. I rate it a 5.

Takes me back

glennis1953

For pure historical value, this album will take one back to "the day" and shows some of the best early guitar work of the time. It sounds ol-timey, now, which speaks to 60s production values and music gear, as well as the style of music.

artifactual

Drooch

This is an intriguing album, certainly influential in its way, but to be frank, it hasn't aged as well as some of the truly classic mid to late 60s albums, such as Dylan's Highway 61, the Stones' Beggars Banquet, Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow, The Zombies' Odessey and Oracle, or even Floyd's Piper At the Gates of Dawn, to name just a few of those that still sound fresh today. This one feels more like an artifact. The songwriting is erratic at best. Still, it's worth the downloads for Beck's guitar work and its overall historical value. The bonus tracks include the classic Happenings Ten Years Time Ago and Psycho Daisies, which both rock. The Relf solo tracks aren't bad, I'd say on a par with the rest of the album.

An Introduction to the Yardbirds

By Lenny Kaye, eMusic Contributor

There were many British bands that swiveled rock's glorious adolescence, but for my nascent psychedelia and guitar drool, the Yardbirds have long held the most resonance. The wonder of first hearing the extended rave-up of "I'm A Man;" the Gregorian chants of "Still I'm Sad;" the eastern swami of "Over Under Sideways Down;" the clarion clang of the harpsichord in "For Your Love" forever changed for me how I would hear rock music. I sometimes think… more »
