If Billy Childish is best known for one band it's Thee Headcoats. Maybe it has something to do with the article's extra E, or maybe it has to do with Thee Headcoats 'sharp, tight focus. Elementary Headcoats offers an excellent overview of the band's career, as well as a few tracks by bluesier spinoff group Thee Headcoats Sect, whose highlight is the self-celebratory "Be a Sect Maniac," not to be confused with the self-celebratory "Headcoats On." Elsewhere, Childish baldly rewrites the Vince Edwards/Clash rockabilly classic "Brand New Cadillac" on "The Earl of Suave," trashes the British weekly New Musical Express to the chords of "All Day and All of the Night" and offers up a blurt called "Art or Arse?" just in case you needed the band's creative philosophy explained to you in one minute, seven seconds.
