Guitar-led jams over pop jems
2011 | Label: In The Red / Revolver

For some 15 years now, John Dwyer has been forming bands, playing shows, forming new bands to play more shows and generally doing the punk-rock version of hard work. No surprise, then, that this is the second album from his most notable project this year. Unlike May’s Castlemania, Carrion Crawler/The Dream is a little less catchy, and a little more in-your-face, with nearly no indication that this is a band that oftentimes dabbles in psych-damaged… read more »

This album blew my mind!

JArthur990

This album made it into my top 5 favorites. There's not a bad song here - though it's not for everyone! I recommend this on vinyl, but MP3 format will do. I usually start with side 2 because "The Dream" is an amazing song. Turn it up!

Thank You

Probably their best. Refreshing rock n' roll, thank god, and uniquely their own. consistent throughout. Can't wait to see this live. They just keep getting better and better.

Their best since HELP

Really prolific and somewhat inconsistent band, but this one is definitely one to get. Check out "Contraption/Soul Desert" and "The Dream". Excellent stuff, highly recommended.

didn't download, John gave it to me :)

My was I surprised to see Carrion Crawler on the front page when I signed into eMusic today. John just gave me the vinyl the other night at a tiny, underground club in Providence, RI. I highly recommended it... I can't pigeonhole John's work... I have never been able to, and I was there when the man learned to play guitar. If you like real music with guts, you'll find something to like in John's body of work.

Album of the year!

I thought unhinged guitar mayhem was gone forever. This rocks with sonic goodness!

2011: Garage Rock Grows Up

By Mike McGonigal, Contributor

Four years ago, I flew from Portland to New York to see my favorite band, New Zealand's garage-pop trio the Clean, play three shows at a glorious pit called Cake Shop. The openers were Crystal Stilts, a Brooklyn group with no records out whose moody and noisy music pushed all the right buttons. I quickly befriended the group, especially guitarist JB Townsend and his then-girlfriend Frankie Rose, whose own band Vivian Girls were soon-to-be favorites.… more »
