Melted my hard heart...

wilburowen

I love this recording.... and heard it for the first time while I was living in Washington D.C. a most provincial city at the time.... 1958. A young man named John Dildyne had a program devoted to folk music for a few hours on Sunday evening and played it., all of it, without interruption. The music and the words softened my heart..... including toward whom I thought of as a clueless young husband who apparently watched me while I listened ... and brought the recording home the next evening. Folk music to sooth the savage breast. Norma Manna Blum

Bikel Sings Jewish Folk Songs

frogwade

As a 15 year-old Presbyterian boy, I wanted to be Jewish like all my cool friends. I learned passible Yiddish from playing this wonderful record over and over. The lyrics were printed in English,Yiddish and Transliterated Yiddish. I still get ferklempt when I listen. When I lived in Israel, I could talk to old people, which was a great thrill. Reb Bikel is a hero to me. See him in African Queen and 200 Motels. [g] Enjoy.
