... the nicest of the damned!!

schmo

IF you don't know what I'm talking about, then I guess you need to download this classic! I have 13 TMBG CD's (I think), and this one is a big reason why. It is one of their best.

yeah, it's uneven...

THAT'S THE CHARM!!! much like their indie masterpiece "lincoln", the two johns find room on their major label debut for "in the moment" oddities like "minimum wage", while capturing minds young & old with lyrical hook-laden gems like "women & men" or "we want a rock". then, there are the SONGS of TMBG's career. uneven? yeah. classic? youbetchya.

My #1 Deserted Island Disc

eclecticus

This is absolutely one of the best albums of all time. It holds together so well. Every song is a goofy, quirky gem.

I liked this album, especially "Istanbul". I wake up with that one going through my head all the time. Still waiting on here comes science ever since I heard tmbg on Science Friday.

They might be great!

This CD is far from uneven. This CD is trans-generational! I have loved it since I bought it, my kids(9 years apart)love it also. It is uniformly a GREAT, but quirky CD. Since I got the CD I have wanted a Prosthetic Forehead for my Real Head, and my kids all want to go to Istanbul. I rest my case.

ptolemyclark. While I've been saving many things for later, this one I downloaded right away. Easily the best TMBG album ever, and the one that finally gave them some public recognition.

Nice to see this finally arrive on Emu!

This has long been pretty much the only TMBG album missing from the catalog on here, so its arrival is worthy of celebration. Arguably the best of their career.

Covers That Are Better (known) Than The Originals

By Rich Caccappolo, CTO

Sure, most fans probably believe that being considered a great artist usually means they can write a great song. However, many of our most beloved, most popular, and most successful acts over the last 40 years are best known for songs they covered. In some cases, we all know the truth, e.g., Van Halen didn't write and first record "(Oh) Pretty Woman"; a guy with much more conservative hair and glasses penned and originally performed… more »

eMusic Celebrates Elektra Records' 60th Aniversary

By eMusic Editorial Staff, eMusic Contributor

Jac Holzman founded Elektra Records in October 1950, gradually growing it from a label specializing in folk and related music into one of the most progressive imprints in rock. The early home of rock giants like the Doors and beloved cult acts like Love and Tim Buckley, Elektra gradually became synonymous with "cutting edge." In the '80s, it was the home of pioneering alternative acts like the Pixies. Take time out today to celebrate the… more »

They Say All Music Guide

On their major-label debut, Flood, They Might Be Giants exchange quirky artiness for unabashed geekiness and a more varied and polished musical attack. Although the album contains two of the group’s finest singles in “Birdhouse in Your Soul” and “Istanbul (Not Constantinople),” the overall record is uneven, since the group’s hooks aren’t quite as sharp as before and the humor is either too geeky or leavened with awkward social statements like “Your Racist Friend.” Even with its faults, Flood has a number of first-rate songs, and it’s a strong addition to their catalog, even if it isn’t as weirdly intoxicating as its predecessors. – Stephen Thomas Erlewine
