Mesmerizing

MusicLab

I realize its all in the eyes-and more appropriately ears- of the reviewer, but this album is something to behold. Brennan's themes dovetail and intertwine in an almost unperceptive manner unless you focus on all that he is doing. A master ambient artist, this is my favorite of his and perhaps in the entire genre. I certainly put it up there with Brian Eno's "Music for Airports." Truly none better.

Silvercloud

Under similar artists it says Similar Artists: Steve Roach, Steve Roach, Steve Roach, Steve Roach, Steve Roach Am I to understand from this that Steve Roach is similar?

There are better ambient sounds, than this one, but still is pleasant and harmonious for meditation and relaxing.I give 3 point for the album.

Beyond Words

SpunGeneration

This music, like the vibrational tones of meditation, goes straight to the very core of your spirit. My friends, some of whom disdain "New Age" music, always ask when I play this album; "What is it?" If there is only one work of this genre that a person must own, then this is it.

No namby pamby new age spiritualist stuff here. Nice and dark with no messing around.

Like the real thing

Returning

You are instantly caught up in the magic of Mist which creates a warm atmosphere of spacious chords that rise and fall away forever. Like the experience of being in real mist you are aware that there is a seeming blandness, which is also forever shifting and changing with subtle details. I love the touches of different sounds such as chimes - just enough to keep you second guessing what's out there. You can never walk into the same mist twice.

If there's a new game from MYST series ever, it should be the soundtrack.

I've never heard a music so mystic and ancestral before. So perfect, so pure, timeless. Music for the spirit.

Nothing short of brilliance!

Byrdnutter

Thom Brennan is one of the best performers out there in the auraspace. That is because his music has real depth, real soul that touches its own magic and shares it for us. Thom's music is so close to perfection that sometimes I hear the birds outside copy his notes. Mist and Secret faiths of Salamanders are a sequel equal to none. Art becomes music, genius becomes the profound.

They Say All Music Guide

In 2001 Thom Brennan began re-releasing a lot of his earlier works. There was one recording that set all of this in motion, and that was the release of his excellently gifted work Mist. Thom Brennan’s Mist is not only one of his finest offerings, but it stands as one of the finest works that the calendar year 2001 yielded as a whole, or at least in the Top Ten of these recordings. This is the most ambient work that Thom Brennan has done. He wholly visits the musical language of many great ambient space music artists, including Steve Roach, Jeff Pearce, Giles Reaves, and William Linton, and craftily blends these consonant ambiences into a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing whole. Thom Brennan’s Mist is wonderfully put together recording and one that is a perfect marriage of excellent pre- and post-production, as well as perfectly chosen timbres and compositional materials. It’s with Mist that Thom Brennan has hit a landmark, a peak in the overall catalog of his incredible work. – Matt Borghi
