Thursday may have helped usher in the “Summer of Screamo” when Full Collapse was released, but that’s only because no one knew where else to file it. Born in New Jersey’s basement culture, songs like “Cross Out the Eyes” were clearly influenced by relatively obscure screamo bands on the Gravity Records roster, but vocalist Geoff Rickly’s strikingly literary musings were packed with so much imagery and iconography that teens all over the country instantly latched onto these post-hardcore anthems, debating them in chat rooms until their fingers bled.
