That voice and those songs
If you are an Emmylou Harris fan you are bound to love this album. The production is perfect, the voice heavenly, and the songs well-constructed.

This is a country album, for sure. But fortunately (for me), it comes without the sheen and slickness of current country radio. Just beautiful melodies and emotional lyrics. This is an album I've returned to again and again.
Few albums create such a cohesive template of easy listening. Merritt delivers beautiful lyrics and catchy melodies on this record. From beginning to end you will be pleased.
And "Mille Tendresses" is lovely
I enjoyed Morning is my Destination, but I just can't find the depth of feeling here that I hoped for.
Based on a review of this album in Esquire magazine, I went out and bought this CD, expecting to be blown away. Instead I was underwhelmed, so much so that I sold the CD to a second-hand music store. When I came upon it again via eMusic, I decided to give Tift another chance. I downloaded tracks 1, 2, 3 and 7 and feel I got my money's worth. I wish I could give this a stronger endorsement but Tift's voice, while pleasant, ultimately is nowhere near as stirring as, say, Patty Griffin's.
Hey I am rooting for u Tift, not just because we're cousins, but you are so damn talented. I'm disappointed with this album. Its not very powerful or catchy. I think especially in country music you need a catchy story with more dramatic sound.
I disagree strongly with the reviewers that think her music is ordinary and the ones who are disappointed. I think her voice is wonderful! This album is a gem. I first heard her track "Broken" on a Paste CD and loved it. I've downloaded the rest and encourage others to do the same.
I have said pretty much the same about the Watson Twins and I will stick my neck out again. Whilst this album is not offensive it is really not anything. Sure Tift has a rare voice but this album does nothing for it and she could quite honestly be singing for the Sugerbabes .. such a shame but it does not set my aural world on fire. She sounds like Shania Twain gargling with syrup when I am sure she would rather be Tammy Wynette or Laura Cantral or Diane Krall.
This is a really honest piece of work, part finding your self, part in love. Maybe the album would have been stronger if she'd concentrated on the first, but who am I to say. Really love the title track, honest I do! WE all live in "another country" sometimes in our lives, a perfect piece of song writing.
