One classic, one great, rest okay ...to throwaway

You MUST download Possum Kingdom. It has to be in every music lovers' collection. You're welcome. You may want Away, also, but not a necessity.

Agreed!

This is a phenomenal album, and I'm thrilled to rediscover it. Has anyone noticed any unclean MP3 rip issues in this album, mine seems to jump a little during Possum Kingdom and Tyler.

A Case For Post-Grunge

KrisWright

This is really one of the great overlooked albums of the 1990s. Sure it produced a few hits, but the Toadies never really built a legend for themselves the way groups like The Smashing Pumpkins or Nirvana did. That's a shame because Rubberneck is a killer record from start to finish that I'd rank alongside any of its contemporaries. Among other virtues, these songs actually seem to come from a unique perspective that mixes elements of sexuality, wild religiosity, near insanity and the much-ballyhooed, possible undercurrent of vampirism. Beyond that, Rubberneck just really rocks and is always a worthwhile listen when I feel like giving it a spin. I particularly recommend "Tyler", one of the most frightening songs about obsession I've ever heard.

The Toadies’ debut album is a streamlined version of the Pixies’ warped guitar rock and Nirvana’s throttling grunge. It results in some good moments, particularly the single “Possum Kingdom.” – Stephen Thomas Erlewine
