Happy he's here too

Jamandjazz

I must agree with the reviewers who say "see him live!" You won't regret it, he creates an incredible magic that you'll find in every recording thereafter, including this CD. Todd's a genius for saying the things we can't quite express.

His music makes me laugh and feel.I haven't seen him live but would love to.I can understand why he is on the same label as the great John Prine.

You Have to See Him Live!

paradox

In response to Kate 76, I had the same feeling about Todd. That was, until I saw him live. He's still playing the songs the same on stage as a solo artist. The studio sound is alot different. So, to those of you who love the albums & haven't caught him live YET - you are going to be blown away! After that, the albums are even more enjoyable.

Man, these songs are great and hit me just right. They could be cry in the beer songs, but I feel like they offer more of a restrospect....good feeling songs

Less folk, more country

Kate76

Like many Todd Snider fans, I really dug him in the mid-90s where his acoustic, folksy songs tell more of a story. Todd is what I liked to call "coffeehouse music" - regardless of what genre you'd classify him as, he's the sort of chill sound that works well with sitting back with a warm beverage and hanging out with friends. However, that has changed as of this record. There is a decisive country twang in these tracks, and the storytelling has given way to tired singer/songwriter cliches. I miss the mid-90s Todd.

Wonderful Songwriting

DukeOfErrol

If you are fan of well-constructed pop/folk songs, you should own this album. It's long on clever though non-pretentious lyrics. It's short on filler. This is a desert-island album for me.

They Say All Music Guide

Snider is amiable enough on his first album for John Prine’s label, and he’s taken his literal move to Nashville figuratively as well — becoming a more conventional singer/songwriter in the process, downplaying the quirks that got him noticed initially. There are some nice things here, and the horns are a particularly welcome blast of fun. – Michael Gallucci
