Desert Saints

kjc

A couple of his blues songs (similar to "Darker Blues" here) were also in the film, Desert Saints. The songs are 30 Days and Baby, What's Wrong With You. Both are co-written by Tom Rothrock and Jon Brown (who sings lead). To find the songs, look for Jon Brown's album, 70 Year's Coming.

Really good

Another surprise eMusic find for me. This is an exceptionally good rhythm-heavy, almost blues guitar album. Instrumental albums can be quite dry - particularly guitar oriented ones - but not this one. Great music from beginning to end. The only down side is that he only has this one album out so far.

Sounds good.

I've discovered Rothrock by watching Collateral with Michael Mann's commentary. And Mann comments that the song that plays when the Ruffalo's character is introduced is "Rollin' Crumblin'" by Tom Rothrock. Anyway, this is a nice experimental album, very moody, but overall good stuff.

Soundtrack Meets ...Somthing

I am loving this very experimental, rock, bluegrass, soundtrack, mix. Tom Rothrock is the producer of famous artist, such as James Blunt. Personal I love the freedom he has in his own work. So of the tracks do sound alike.

Tom played guitar on Beck's Mellow Gold. I have only heard Darker Blues, but I love it. Grabbed it off of a blog once upon a time. Great intrumental - put it in one of my last mixes. Rest of the samples sound just as good. It's got that dark, bluesy alt-country feel to it. Lovely.
