outstanding afrobeat
By far my favourite Tony Allen, this has an afrobeat vibe filtered through the dub reggae sensibilities of Lee Perry or Augustus Pablo. Just try and avoid bopping your head. Party over here!
Nigerian Space Program
Down the years this has proved resilient as my favorite Tony Allen album, I started out buying all the 12" releases and then upon the CD's release I was able to pick that up as well. The collaborative production between Tony & Doctor L is entirely futuristic and gives Afrobeat a sonic adjustment that really turns you around. If you are expecting Afrobeat floorfillers this is not really that album, this is a personal, sparer space cadet album, try out Asiko & Black Voices. By the way the tracks are not listed as they appeared on the physical releases here are the corrections: Black Voices (We are what we play mix) 7:34/Asiko (in a silent mix) 9:29)/Ariya Psychejujumix 7:00.
