Excellent 1970 psych into prog
One of the handful of releases in 1970 that captures the mind expansion of the 60s as it transitioned into the early stages of the music expansion of the 70s. This takes imaginative 60s pop structures and sharpens them with economic use of muscular brass, fuzzed psych guitar and generous helpings of spirited flute. Keyboards, piano and even sitar figure into the mix at times as well as Latin flavored percussion and vibraphone. This has many moments where it sounds like what the follow up to “This Was” by Jethro Tull could have been had Mick Abrahams stayed at the helm. The influence of Traffic, Santana and Cream can also be heard in the superb arrangement and playing but the songwriting has enough of the underground dig to obscure the mainstream echo.
