Another lost gem ...

jdship

David Kahn smoothed out the rough edges of the first record and made possibly the definitive American '80s pop record. The odd thing about this one is that each song is either great or embarrassing. There was little in between. The third album was more consistent, but the highs here are more mighty, and they make this a great record.

it's better than you've heard

it's sometimes nice that bands create a limited amount of work - they don't lose that specialness as they wind down their career. Because of the one huge hit song that's on the first album, people tend to ignore this album, but as an album, it's stronger overall. It would have been nice to see where Translator went as a band, but it's also nice to know that with their few albums, we have a nice statement of what they were.

great 80's west coast sound

wakeupjonny

my experience with translator goe sall the way back to NYC 1982,whenI believe "Everywhere That Im Not",came out on the air. I was instantly focused on their echoey, melodic pulsating , twangish guitar. Being a big fan of the Byrds,I was drawn in immediatly. This album is just slightly less amazing than their first.Too bad they only lasted a handful of years.Worth the download! JONNY

Translator took the new wave formula too far on this one, though “No Time Like Now” and “Un-Alone,” ring through with the sound of chiming guitars, inspired by the Byrds, the Beatles, and the young R.E.M. – Denise Sullivan
