Mixed feelings

dsn

My feelings about this album are mixed. I really like their creativity and spontaneity -- but I think the playing sounds sloppy, as if they were noodling around.

The free track is a cover of a Don Cherry tune. Band members John Kruth and Jeff Greene play over 2 dozen instruments between them. Kruth has previously lent his frenetic mandolin playing to the Meat Puppets and the Violent Femmes. HisTriBeCaStani aresenal includes mandocello, the Moldavian kaval, harmonica, banjo, royal benju, zurna, penny whistle, sheng, Uilleann chanter, bladder pipe, crumhorn, Kelhorn, gong, Indian oboe, and his voice. Greene plays the Afghan rubab, yayli tambur, nyckleharpa, six-string ukulele, kanun, saz, hurdy gurdy, and the koncovka and fujara overtone flutes, as well as a myriad of percussion instruments including the steel drum, chromatic tambourine, guiro, tupan, khamok, and the Jew’s harp. Guests include alumni of Ween, SNL Band,The Klezmatics and even Jolie Holland on the Sonny Sharrock cover “Many Mansions".

Finally...

Kx4Bliss

...something new and creative. This is not easy to catagorize. All the tracks aren't for everyone but it seems from the samples that there is something here for everyone who appreciates creative ventures from good musicians. Cool label - check out their other releases for more good stuff.
