my fave electronic-artists of the past yeasr have been apparat and ulrich schnauss so i was excited to hear a similar sound coiming from TYCHO. what is immediately obvious is his mastery of technique...lush, vibrant sounds and textures and very solid playing throughout...not to mention great understanding and use of beats. what, for me, is lacking....is the sense of real emotion and drive. in some ways it's too nice and yet not nice enough. it's pleasant without being really stirring...somehow failing to demand repeated attention. it's possible it'll catch me by surprise at some later time...but for now i'll say if gloss and technique is good enough for you...then this may very-well be considered a masterpiece.
What amazes me about Tycho (including his newest album) is that it is so deep, yet simple. Playful, yet introspective. It serves any purpose you want from working out, to reading, to meditating to cooking to etc.... It just works.... One of, if not my favorite electro artist. ...and his artwork is not to shabby either.
Always cool groves here
I'm glad that Tycho is investigating the template that BoC carved out, but didn't go far enough with.
Most of these tracks are from the album Sunrise Projector (no longer available on emusic) or from old EPs (which you can download here), so make sure you're not re-downloading tracks. That said, Tycho's music is gorgeous and I heartily recommend all of it. It's a lot like Boards of Canada, but with a more emotional edge.
