some don't get it

tenzinandrio

This isn't an album for fans of the covered songs, this is an album for fans of the PDX music scene. And for that, it's awesome, and also pretty damn funny!

Dig Deep!

This is the problem with compilations... you've got some good, something unique, and a lot of not-so-much... The Dandy Warhols tune is good. "They Don't Know" is a very pleasant surprise. As a Suicidal Tendencies fan, I was curious about the cover of "I Saw Your Mommy", and then I heard it - and laughed for about an hour. BTW, I did enjoy the Minders' cover of ELO. Not bad, but unless you're a big fan or willing to explore, look elsewhere.

Distance Bridged

JehuCampos

Wonderful collection of covers from PDX bands! From Jenny's serene vocals on "Think About Me" to Blitzen Trapper's poppy rendition of "Crazy On You," these songs represent the influence of classic songs on today's young, indie bands. The distance between the classics, from Sam Cooke to Elvis Costello to Heart, and Portland's flagship bands showcased in this album, is definitely bridged! A 5/5 for an album of the independent caliber one comes to expect from eMusic.

Don't Bring Me Down

The ELO cover is good imo, I had never heard of The Minders before now but I'm digging it. The more I hear it the more I like it. If you played it in a dance club I guarantee people would dance to it. The Dandy Warhols kind of disappoint as does Lackthereof but not horrible from what I've dl'd so far. Do not miss Blitzen Trapper - Crazy On You though.....fantastic!

Mother told us: Never say anything about someone if you can't say anything nice. Enough said.

Hopeless

Muse8

These cover versions are absolutely hopeless. Apparently recorded in GarageBand in an authentic garage to sound exactly like a high school band rehearsal. After too many shots from the parents' liquor vault.

the reason you can DL individual tracks

Yeah, this one is mostly BAD cover versions of, in some cases, already bad songs. It's frequently hilarious -- "Crazy On You" is so funny to me, not sure why (I have always found that song funny I guess, but with the weird squishy synths... yeah.) Most radical re-do is the folk version of "White Wedding." And I really like the Dandy Warhols re-interpretation of "She Sells Sanctuary." Hunt and pick thru this, there's some jewels to be found.

Yes the Decemberists

cardinalcanary

Googling this album indicates that it most certainly is the Decemberists on track 1. This is a benefit album for P:ear (a group supporting youngsters in Portland). Some covers are good, some not so good but overall an enjoyable experience.

Not The Decemberists

ahtir

Listen before you download, because they are not all labeled properly. For example, track 1 "Think About Me" is not by The Decemberists.

don't listen to that guy

good stuff here, the free track 'they don't know' is awesome... only got two others but they are good, too. the dandy's 'she sells sanctuary' is very subdued but funky.
