sub par mastering!

Yessh! I wouldn't have read the review, never do, but this i had to. Sounds like it was written for a grade 2 media studies class, or a freshman on the college newspaper who grew up in Boise listening to Nickelback. I love anticon, as I love Chocolate Industries and Def Jux etc, all the greatest hip hop, but this one has a lackluster mastering job that makes the great tracks a bit of a drag at times...

All music guide!

I've read some shitty reviews from people at "All music guide".. but this is one of the worst ever! Also check out Stewart Mason for some pretty crappy reviewing. Music critics are vermin!

Original - smart - great hiphop

Abbi23

Fantastic. Strong Mpls / Rhymesayers influence. Brilliant. I wish I was richer to have the whole thing. Definitely playing all the chosen cuts on the radio this tuesday for sure. Basically a punker - and there is no denying how fantastic this album is

A User's Guide to Anticon

By Hua Hsu, Contributor

For many, the anxiety of influence often results in something like imitation. We love something so dearly that we aspire to become it, patterning our own approach to craft or modeling our lifestyle around some distant, impossible blueprint. For others, though, devotion can lead one far, far astray. Consider the from-all-over-the-place collective Anticon, first-degree hip-hop fans whose sideways-homages often bear only the faintest resemblance to the music that brought them together. There is no wrong… more »

They Say All Music Guide

From the title you should know this isn’t your average hip hop record. Anticon’s sound is an acquired taste. The various MC’s that make up Anticon almost seem like they want to be different. They revel in it. They want to push boundaries of hip hop. They may not, but they try. On the beat of “It’s Them” you hear it repeat a few times then it gets cut up and slowed down and Dose flows with the choppy beat. But with lyrics like “It doesn’t look like an ice sculpture!…or does it?” doesn’t really do much for the listener. One bright spot on this album is “Nothing but Sunshine” by Slug. Where he talks about what he went through as a kid over a nice piano beat done by Moodswing9. Another nice track is “Simulated Snow” by Sixtoo who also did the beat. The beat at first starts off with just a piano loop then the drums slowly creep in and out, and they change enough to keep the listener entertained by themselves. Sixtoo’s lyrics are nice but there is no passion behind them, his delivery is dry. So if you want to hear some abstract hip hop from a variety of different artists this may be the album for you. – Dan Gizzi
