What's most intriguing about the obscurities and classics on this compilation of off-the-beaten-track, turn-of-the-’80s dance music is their diversity. In an age when musical subcultures that were mere footnotes in their day are available at a flick of the mouse, the once-unfathomable New York punk-salsa of Konk and skronk-disco of James Chance, and Delta 5's likeminded all-girl Leeds art-student punk-funk, might strike a few cranky collectors as over-exposed oldies by now; the Eight-Mile-as-Autobahn innovations of… read more »

Track 8 is YMO?

NormanDog

This sure sounds like "Seoul Music" from "Technodelic" by YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra)... just based on the clip of course. A really, really long sample maybe?

song 11 is the real deal!!

Guimo

Liaisons Dangereuses is just epic!

It's not bad and definitely has some good tracks but as a whole is pretty boring.

Kaddish

SimonThePhopp

If anyone is curious to hear Kaddish by Gina X Performance it's on Lindstrøm's Late Night Tales compilation.

Strongly recommended

Normalform

A must have for all lovers of disco. It's not that kind of mainstream-stuff you will find on all these ubiquitous disco-compilations. !K7 gathered some of the coolest tracks originated by the disco-movement from 1974-1986. Track 8 is mislabeled indeed. Rename it: Seoul Music - Yellow Magic Orchestra.

Great Album

Grover

This is one of the best complilations I have found in a long time. Obscure hipster music. This is where new cool bands like !!! get their "disco" inspiration from.

Great!

...brings back the good, old times, were we played "Los Ninos Del Parque" mid-end of the eighties and beyond every weekend in our "dark wave" @ "Dorfdisco Rustica", in a mix with Sleeper in Metropolis (Anne Clark), The Last Film (Kissing the Pink), Beatronic (Unknown and 3D), 8.15 to nowhere (Vicious Pink) etc... between dicso-fox and 80ies pop like Fancy ;-) Was a great time, thanks for this reminder! Track 8 is...

eJDL

mislabeled. The download is actually 'Seoul Music' by Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) from their 1982 album 'Technodelic'. Great song - always loved it - but not the correct track. Don't let it stop you from downloading Disco Not Disco - you'll enjoy it all the same!

The Evergreens for the Hype-Floor!

Evictus

This is as classy as music, as I understand it and like it, can be! These are the rythms and the sounds that made me as a little boy hate my sister(I'm 30 and she had all those records) because she never let me listen to her records.
