An excellent addition to the Petrenko cycle

JLamede

This is up to the high standard of Petrenko's Fifth and Tenth. The Sixth is as good as Barshai's Cologne performance (my personal favourite) and Petrenko's trademark restraint does well with the Twelfth -- Shostakovich's weakest symphony, which had even the composer near despair.

Another hit for this team!

Musicdirektor

I have been purchasing all titles in this series and was awaiting the recording of my favourite symphony (No 6) with anticipation. It does not disappoint, with the middle movement in particular being paced just perfectly. However, letting the recording roll on I was treated to a fantastic performance of No 12! Really exciting from first note to last. I know this is not one of his best symphonies only because of its jingoistic connotations but it's great fun. As ever with this team, the recording is great quality with a real sense of 'hall' in the reverb. The playing is without fault and idiomatic. Don't hesitate!
