They Say All Music Guide

The music of Musafir matches the rugged theme of the film, and was the first of its kind in this musical style for Vishal-Shekhar. Until now, Vishal-Shekhar exercised their individual influences to create music that was earthy and more critically acclaimed. With Musafir, Vishal-Shekhar composed easily appreciated music, which clicked instantly. With 17 songs on the track list (some of them appearing more than once) mixed in various styles and genres, this two-CD set features one disc titled Club and the other titled Lounge. The Club CD opens with the adrenalin-pumping “Ishq Kabhi Kario Na,” the only composition by Anand Raaj Anand here, performed by Sunidhi Chauhan. In its “Flea Market Trance Mix,” this techno track is high on beats and has some good lyrics by Dev Kohli. The track resurfaces later on in its “Paridiso Mix” by Sukhwinder Singh, with effects ready-made for dancefloors. The slow and haunting track “Rabba” appears in four versions. Krishna sings on the “Agony and Ecstasy Mix” with a “Sufi” rendition and Sukhwinder Singh provides a silky touch on the “Kiss of Death Remix.” The album takes a turn toward stylish dance arrangements with “Door Se Paas” performed by K.K. “Tez Dhaar” has a very hip-hop/rap feel and appears in two versions, the “Sex on Wheels Mix” (produced by DJ Akeel with lyrics by Vishal and Milap Jhaveri) and the “Billa’s Journey Mix.” Sung by Sanjay Dutt, it is a mix of dialogues and some singing, which makes it more of a miss than anything else. “Ek Dil Ne” is a soothingly romantic song by Shreya Ghoshal and Kunal Ganjawala and is one of highlights of this soundtrack. Other highlights include the foot-tapping track “Sun Suniyo” by Hema Sardesai and “Saaki” by Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan. – Bhasker Gupta
