Dark kookiness and gorgeous sensitivity
As far as my flawed memory can recall, the demise of the (wonderful) Australian band The Lighthouse Keepers resulted in some equally good line-ups, including The Honeys, Blumenintahls and this band, Widdershins. If you like King Curly, you'll find their roots here, with Greg Appel's imaginative moments recorded for posterity (I'm sure they were wilder live in concert, and I wish I'd been old enough to attend!). Juliet Ward's plaintive yet gritty voice doesn't disappoint, and this album holds up against other indy music of the 1980s. There are frequent moments of gorgeousness, and occasional moments of 'WTF?'. Love it.
