This band is awesome! I bought Psychelonaut a while ago & it rips! When I signed up at emusic I found that they had The Gathering Dark & got it right away. You get almost 80 minutes each disc of monster riffing & thunderous songwriting. 5 stars + !
I am not really up to date on this scene but I was pulled into this by the reported 70s rock/blues influences. This definitely has stoner cloth sewed into its jean jacket, but where Kyuss rises out of the desert heat and Fu Manchu rises like heat off asphalt, these guys are like mammoth mud cats rising out of the murkiest, most turbulent waters of the Mississippi, guitars plugged into its deepest, muddiest depths, playing Tres Hombres meets Masters of Reality with all the subtleness of an anvil shoed two step. Nothing new and nothing really blue, but I give it 4 stars for at least trying to weld Texas boogie to British steel.
