Electric Guitars and Bagpipes

Bischofftep

What's not to like? Wolfstone's second album builds on what works best from their first. The combination of the undeniable energy of upbeat piping and driving rock beats is one that delivers throughout the album. From instrumentals like "Zeto" and "Clueless" to well-sung period pieces such as "Bonnie Ship the Diamond" and more contemporary pieces, Wolfstone puts together a pleasing array of good tunes. Not a lemon on this album! Fans of Wolfstone need to add this one to their collection, and anyone looking for something upbeat and Celtic, this is the perfect place to start!

They Say All Music Guide

Half Tail, Wolfstone’s followup to their breakthrough Year of the Dog, essentially repeats the formula of its predecessor, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Wolfstone energizes their Celtic roots with impassioned rock energy, much like how the Waterboys reshaped Celtic music for their Fisherman’s Blues and Room to Roam albums. However, unlike the Waterboys or Black 47, Wolfstone don’t abandon Celtic for rock — they just channel that anthemic passion back into their folk. Half Tail isn’t as consistently enthralling as Year of the Dog but that’s only a relative judgment. On its own terms, it’s stellar. – Thom Owens
