My we all scream for Layla. Willie Nelson now Clapton. Who will Wynnie shake out of the box next that has no rhyme, reason or connection to his music. Who's next? Ozzy? This is pairing with nothing but marketing in mind. Art and music aren't even an afterthought. Poor live sound recording, the music's all over the mat, and nothing really gels. He can't say he never sold out.
Worse review on emusic is the one that calls this a sell out. Wynton loves music, and loves both the traditional ('Standard Time') and mixing his style of New Orleans jazz with almost any other style. Here Clapton's English-Blues meet Marsalis' New Orleans Jazz-Blues and the mix while not perfect is certainly a delight to listen to. You hear a happy, free willing, co-love of music in both of these men, which they don't always show. Enjoy it.
This is a wonderful record! Dixieland? There is some of that sound here, but that's not all there is. It's a blend! There is the Blues, and Forty-Four for my money rocks. But rocks kind of flawlessly, precisely, elegantly, muscularly, with instruments (the clarinet!) you don't usually associate with rock. Sell-out? I don't know or care. I'm not a purist. I just really like this record. After something this good, I expect Marsalis and Clapton will do it again.

Sell out? Sell out from what? This might be the most interesting thing he has done since “Black Codes From the Undergroundâ€. I think he has gotten into a rut, and maybe needs to sell out from whatever that is he’s been doing for so long.
Clapton's guitar tone is excellent! This is not modern jazz with EC blazing away. It is Dixieland with EC's growling vocals surrounded by incredible musicians. If Dixlieland is your thing then you'll probably like this. I could of used more of EC's guitar work but everyone took smokin' solos and that was cool. Clapton touched upon Dixieland ond his last album. This is a continuation of that link somewhat.
