Mellow album for sure. "Alternative/Punk" is totally misleading, but 5 Stars is not. More excellent work from one of the most reliably excellent bands in the biz.

Wow. Every time I happen to disregard a Yo La Tengo release that's not one of their main albums, I end up discovering months later that I've been missing out (\"The Sounds of the Sounds of Science,\" for instance -- an unexpectedly great release). This release is no exception. I can't find much information on its genesis, but here's what matters: If you're a YLT fan this is definitely a worthy addition to your library. If you're not yet a YLT fan, this is a gorgeous and moving instrumental album to score your rainy Sunday. Preview their instrumental rewrite of \"Madeline\" as an example -- a mere 41 seconds, but it gives me chills. Marvelous.

The band's new home of Blue River, Colorado, sported a population of 685 during the… more »
