Modern and Romantic: an Intimate Marriage
When we hear the tracks of this album coming up randomly on our player, we always have a conversation about what is it -- some lyrical Shostakovitch or Schumann with the twentieth century sensibilities? This music has both: the romanticism and the modernism. The recording itself is outrageously good! We do have the Volume 1 in SAC CD format, and the download doesn't have as much presence but it's only noticeable if you put them side by side. The recording is very forward and enveloping. You feel as if you are sitting in the semi-circle of musicians, which results in intimacy of listening matched by the intimacy of their playing.
