love it

stopbeatingme

Very solid album from start to finish. Their 90s indie rock influences are rather apparent, as many have noted, but that's not a bad thing! If you liked that kind of music, you won't be disappointed in this.

Yuck

R.O.R

All I got out of the Yuck album is that, they do the 90s really well. What I want them to do is have their own identity mixed in, which would make their sound more compelling and less like what I've heard before, and therefore becomes less like background music, reminiscing about what could have been.

An effective 90s-nostalgia cash in

infinitejest

This is music designed to make aging rock critics pine for their lost youth. Think I'll skip it.

Is it 2011 or 1991?

jolo

This is a great throwback to the early 90's. I head bits of YLT, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr, etc. It is a really fun listen and got me in a good mood after the first spin. The album is a bit varied, in a good way.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

HELENSKALA

Despite its lack of cohesion from track to track and obvious nods to the bands and genres already mentioned by other reviews, this album is beautiful and great. Definitely a composition to be listened to in its entirety. I'm already looking forward to the follow-up.

Why not just stick with Dinosaur Jr?

Wanderer

The band should call themselves Dinosaur Jr. Jr. They're not bad and I guess there's room for Dino Jr. emulators. At least you get some variation in the vocals instead of Mascis' perpetual slacker sound.

Is it foxy to you?

Skip the new Pains of Being Pure at Heart album and download this instead. It sounds unoriginal, but that is not always a bad thing.

Stop Pushing this Crap

cmags

Seeing this band splattered all over every page of emusic, I finally bit and downloaded it. Turns out, it's not good! I loved and lived the 90s alternative scene but hearing it regurgitated like this is just sad.

A Premium Blend

Tabbycat

It's true, Yuck's debut sounds like a lost Dinosaur Jr. / Sonic Youth / Yo La Tengo / Teenage Fanclub collaboration from 1992. With maybe a twist of Eleventh Day Dream. Which is another way of saying it is awesome.

Who Are…Yuck

By J. Edward Keyes, Editor-in-Chief

Nineties indie-rock revivalists and self-described "alternative band" Yuck may be enjoying the first fruits of rabid blog buzz, but their first steps at world domination didn't come without a few bumps. The UK band — which includes former members of the hot-for-a-millisecond Cajun Dance Party — found their attempts to get into America to begin a national tour thwarted by a Gilliam-esque diplomatic snafu. "As it turned out," explains frontman Daniel Blumberg, "when they were… more »
