Biography All Media Guide

Los Angeles audio collective Ultra-red was organized in 1994 by Dont Rhine and Marco Larsen, who previously teamed in the performing arts troupe bang!manifesto. First launching their own ambient club, dubbed Public Space, the duo also published their own newsletter, Contact: Earth Orbit Rendezvous, which outlined their concept of ambient music as the sound culture of everyday life. Next opting to produce their own music, Ultra-red released their debut EP Ode to Johnny Rio, issued on Terre Thaemlitz's Comatonse label; the full-length Second Nature: An Electroacoustic Pastoral followed in 1998, and two years later the duo returned with Structural Adjustment.
