from Wikipedia:
Lunic is the music of songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Kaitee Page (vocals, guitars, keyboards, violin, bass, & programming) accompanied by electric midi violinist Megan Berson and oftentimes a live drummer. Originally formed in London, Lunic is currently based in New York City.
In March 2008 Lunic became the 3rd UK artist (17th artist worldwide) to raise $50,000 on European crowd-sourcing website Sellaband. That same month, after having lived in London for a year, Page was deported from the UK. Instead of recording in London as planned, Page used the money to record Lunic's debut album, Lovethief, in NY with producer Peter Denenberg and mastering engineer Ted Jensen. Lovethief was released 14 May 2009 and Lunic was subsequently interviewed by Good Morning America and the New York Times regarding fan-funded albums.
On 19 September 2009, Lunic was selected by WEQX to open for Moby at Larkfest in Albany, NY. On 9 December 2009 Lunic opened for Company of Thieves at Revolution Hall in Troy, NY. On 11 August 2009 Live Nation selected Lunic to open for Creed at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The band has played hundreds of shows throughout the US, UK, & Canada. Lunic's follow-up album, Future Sex Drama, is due to be released summer 2012.
Beginning and Formation
Kaitee Page began writing songs in 2005 while simultaneously residing in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. From 2003-2006 Page played electric violin and keyboards in various LA-based rock bands, most notably the pop rock Australian band Porcelain signed to Universal Records. In 2006, Page left Porcelain amicably in order to pursue a songwriting career. Page found violinist/violist Megan Berson on Myspace in 2008 while assembling live musicians for Lunic's first US tour that summer. Page coined the band name Lunic in early 2008 while living in London. Inspiration was derived from the fact that the word "lunic" did not exist in any language before it became the band's name. Thus, the word "lunic" evokes mystery as well as images of the moon, something spacey, femininity, lunacy, and all things cyclical.
Style
Lunic's recent work has been compared to The xx and Portishead, "Lunic make(s) distinctive and sultry psychedelic indie with hints of downbeat British electronica acts The xx and Portishead, mournful dashes of violin and melodic lead guitar flourishes." -NXNE Each Lunic release is vastly different sonically. Lunic is known for dabbling in different genres. Lunic is most notable for the award-winning songwriting and lyrical depth of lead singer Kaitee Page.
