Wikipedia:

Best Coast is a band based in Los Angeles, California, and is often categorized under the subgenres of garage rock, surf pop, and lo-fi. The members are frontwoman/songwriter Bethany Cosentino and multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno. While Bruno plays drums on their records, the band has had several drummers for the live setting, most notably former Vivian Girls drummer Ali Koehler. Their single "Boyfriend" was included on the list of best new tracks by Pitchfork Media, with their album Crazy for You ranking 39th on Pitchfork's list "Top 50 Albums of 2010".

History

The band is recognizable for their fuzzy, low-fidelity sound in the vein of surf rock.

The band is signed to the labels Mexican Summer (US) and Wichita Records (Europe), who released their debut album Crazy for You in July 2010. Prior to this the band released a number of 7" singles on smaller independent labels, including Make You Mine on Group Tightener and Something in the Way on Dean Allen Spunt's (of No Age) Post Present Medium label. The band made a decision not to include material from these releases on their debut album.

In April 2010, Best Coast released a music video for their single, "When I'm with You."

In June, 2011, the band released their song "Gone Again" as the second single in Adult Swim's second series of the Kia Singles Program. It was accompanied by a music video.

On August 2, 2011, the band released the music video for their single "Our Deal", directed by Drew Barrymore and featuring Chloƫ Moretz, Miranda Cosgrove, Tyler Posey, Donald Glover, Shailene Woodley and Alia Shawkat.

On October 18, 2011, "When I'm with You" was a featured track in the Rocksmith video game series.

Best Coast was the first act announced for the Big Day Out 2012 lineup.

In an interview with coupdemainmagazine they were quoted saying that their new album is different to their debut Crazy for You because their "song writing style was pretty different" and they are now recording in "a much more professional studio".

Best Coast has toured with notable bands like The Decemberists.

Lyrically, their songs deal with subjects including love, relationships, breakups, and crushes, exemplified in their popular song "Boyfriend".

New Adventures in Hi-Fi

By David Greenwald, eMusic Contributor

D.I.Y. and hi-fi have rarely gone hand in hand. From the muscular crackle of Black Flag to the basement anthems of Guided by Voices, the sound of indie rock has long been the proudly noisy product of four walls and a four-track recorder. As laptops have replaced boomboxes, the aesthetic has endured, with bands embracing digital fuzz as a signal of both outsider cool and a thin wallet. But with the late-2000s lo-fi boom that launched… more »

Who Are…Wax Idols

By Barry Walters, eMusic Contributor

While Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino radiates all the sunny musical signposts of her native Los Angeles — specifically, surf guitar riffs and beach-buoyant harmonies — Wax Idols' Oakland transplant Hether Fortune sings, writes and generates a sound that references several decades of dark British alt-rock, albeit with a contemporary DIY spirit. Like other buzzy Bay Area bands, Fortune and her supporting players prove that punk and pop can still come together without going corporate. eMusic's Barry… more »

Six Degrees of Wavves’ Life Sux EP

By Austin L. Ray, eMusic Contributor

It used to be easier to pretend that an album was its own perfectly self-contained artifact. The great records certainly feel that way. But albums are more permeable than solid, their motivations, executions and inspirations informed by, and often stolen from, their peers and forbearers. It all sounds awfully formal, but it's not. It's the very nature of music — of art, even. The Six Degrees features examine the relationships between classic records and five… more »

eMusic Selects on Amplified

By eMusic Editorial Staff, eMusic Contributor

For this month's eMusic Selects, we decided to try something a bit different: we teamed up with the excellent blog Amplified to solicit their input on which bands they loved, and also to produce a final package a bit bigger than what we usually do. We're thrilled with the results. Not only did Dan and David at Amplified have great feedback when it came to band selection, they also produced a pair of terrific video… more »
