Screaming Females is an independent rock band, often labeled as a punk rock band, from New Brunswick, New Jersey. They have released five full length albums, entitled Baby Teeth, What If Someone Is Watching Their T.V.?, Power Move, Castle Talk, and Ugly. The band features Marissa Paternoster on guitar and vocals, Jarrett Dougherty on drums, and King Mike on bass.
History
Mike and Marissa formed a band in high school under the name Surgery On TV. After several lineup changes they finally decided on the trio and a name change to Screaming Females.
Connection to New Brunswick, NJ Basement Scene
In their hometown of New Brunswick, NJ, the band has participated and encouraged the survival of an underground, basement housed show circuit. Shows are held in the houses of various bands, students, and residents, so people under 21 can attend.
Media exposure
Screaming Females have appeared in notable magazines such as New York Magazine, SPIN, Guitar World and Rolling Stone. Marissa was listed at #77 in SPIN's 100 Greatest guitarists of all time.
Television
On Thursday, August 19, 2009, Screaming Females made their live debut on MTV, appearing on It's On With Alexa Chung. The band also performed on Setlist TV in July 2010. On Wednesday, February 2, 2011, Screaming Females performed "I Don't Mind It" on Last Call with Carson Daly.
Radio
The band was featured on National Public Radio's 'All Things Considered' on October 25, 2010 and interviewed on Minnesota's The Current 89.3 on July 21 of the following year.
