Biography

Adam Franklin (born 1968 in Essex, England) is best known as the frontman/guitarist for British band Swervedriver. The group is commonly included as one of the seminal shoegazer bands that collectively made their initial impact in the early '90s, though Swervedriver's sound -- which, like their peers, used excessive effects pedals -- had a distinctively more raw and mystical rock edge. Prior to Swervedriver, Franklin was part of the early stages of the band in a group called Shake Appeal, which included other future members of Swervedriver. Surviving a couple of lineup changes and a few unlucky, failed record deals that were beyond their control, Swervedriver released four solid albums through the 1990s with little retooling of their signature sound. Upon the band's hiatus at the end of the decade, Franklin quickly regrouped with the slightly experimental and reserved project Toshack Highway, which issued a handful of recordings. In June 2007, Franklin released a solo album under his own name titled Bolts of Melody, with a supporting U.S tour through the summer. During the same year, Franklin began a collaboration called the Setting Suns with Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino.
