Biography

Experimenting within the creative fields of experimental rock, Black Lipstick demonstrates a revealing ability of delivering startling and catchy melodies combined with particular picks of tuneful experimentations. Black Lipstick first formed due to the initiative of creative duo Travis Higdon and Phillip Niemeyer, jointly sharing duties of the guitar and vocal sections. Both Higdon and Niemeyer had previous band experience and they inclusively played in a series of Texas-based groups, like the Kiss Offs and the Nigh Vandals. It was in the late '90s in their native city of Austin, TX, that they decided on calling Leslie Sisson (bass, piano) and Elizabeth Nottingham (drums, vocals), therefore finalizing Black Lipstick's lineup. Following the completion of the group, they then started playing regularly all across the local club scene, also appearing at the South by Southwest festival in 2001. The EP The Four Kingdoms of Black Lipstick, showed up as the band's first disc still in that same year, confirming the band's better abilities within rock's exploration domain.
