Biography

Candlewyck, an acoustic duo from Charlotte, NC, comprised of Ty Bennett on guitar and Chris Emerson on mandolin, released their self-titled debut album in April of 2001. Recorded in a variety of studios in Charlotte, the album combined contemporary bluegrass styles with pop and jazz influences that show the rounded musical background of its creators -- Bennett, who has a degree in classical composition and music theory, has worked performing jazz, gospel, rock, and bluegrass and won an ASC Artist Grant in 1999. Emerson's unique mandolin style comes from his explorations of Celtic, jazz, classical, and rock styles. A host of guest musicians also helped to create a fresh, exuberant sound on their debut, including Don Rigsby, John Cowan, Terry Baucom, and Michael Faith.
