Biography

Seattle music veterans Chris Ballew of the Presidents of the Unites States of America and Tad Hutchison from the Young Fresh Fellows combined their super powers to form the aptly named Chris & Tad in 2000. As the story goes, the group started out as a "challenge band," where each band member was allowed to make only one trip to the car for equipment and whatever each member could carry in one trip was what they had to play simultaneously. Apparently Chris made the trip with a guitar, an amp, and a keyboard (Chris plays guitar and keyboard at the same time, sometimes playing the keyboard with a guitar pick or the headstock of the guitar) and Tad got the job of hauling the entire drum kit (a children's set with a 15" bass drum, one cymbal, a 7" snare, and two tiny toms). Needless to say, they had a good time with their new songs and ended up recording an album's worth of material for Tad's television cartoon show The Shelby Jenkins Show and released a CD called Hand Me That Door on the indie label Orange Recordings.
