Biography

Hardcore band the Freeze formed in Cape Cod in late 1978. While usually lumped in with the rest of the Boston hardcore scene (including bands such as SS Decontrol) the Freeze maintained a connection to their outside roots. Nowhere was this more apparent than in the title of their debut single, "I Hate Tourists," released in 1980. They then signed to Modern Method Records, which featured the band on three compilations: Wicked Good Time, Vol. 2, This Is Boston, Not L.A., and Unsafe at Any Speed. Their debut full-length, Land of the Lost, was released in 1984 and was followed by extensive touring. 1986 saw the follow-up (Rabid Reaction) and subsequent tour, but by 1989 the band decided to call it a day. As is the case with many broken-up acts, a benefit show brought the Freeze back together in 1990, and the band re-formed, singed with Taang! Records, and released not only their back catalog, but also the new LP Misery Loves Company in 1991. In 2005, the band, now centered around the only remaining original and permanent member, Clif Hanger (born Clif Croce), was spotted playing shows in the Boston area.
